Learn about our classes

  • Each class (whatever the age group) blends movement, mindset, and self-defense skills. You can expect a mix of physical techniques (like how to get out of grabs or stay safe on the ground), confidence-building exercises, and discussions about boundaries, intuition, and assertive communication.

Classes are supportive, beginner-friendly, and paced so you can learn at your comfort level — no pressure, just progress. Plus snacks!

  • No experience is necessary! All of our programs are beginner-friendly and designed to meet participants where they’re at. Whether it’s your first time taking a class or you’re building on existing skills, we focus on safety, support, and empowerment.

  • Comfortable clothes you can move in, a water bottle, and an open mind. For in-person classes, we train in bare feet on mats — no special gear is required.

  • You can start by thinking about your goals:

    • For kids and preteens: Be Your Own Hero builds safety, confidence, and body awareness in a playful, supportive way.

    • For teens and women: Arise Self-Defense Club offers deeper self-defense training, mindset work, and community connection.

    • For flexibility or remote learning: Our Online Course is a great intro to key skills at your own pace. description

  • Absolutely. Arise is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and affirming space for everyone. We welcome participants of all gender identities and sexual orientations.

Some programs — like our girls-only classes — are designed to create safety and comfort for specific groups, and we always aim to be transparent about that.

We do have a female-centred approach, especially in our youth and women’s programs, but we’re happy to help you find the best fit based on your needs. Just reach out — you are welcome here.

  • For most classes, pre-registration is required. Some adult sessions (like our monthly Sunday classes) may allow for drop-ins if space allows.

Check each program’s details for current availability, or contact us with questions.

  • Yes! We offer private self-defense coaching, custom workshops for schools and organizations, and corporate wellness trainings. If you’re looking to bring Arise to your team or group, get in touch here.
